Okay and now I’m just standing here awkwardly as the weird girl who can learn anything from a diagram… I taught myself to quilt/knit/crochet all from a book. Then this morning how to do a waterfall braid on myself. *awkwardly hides*

I’m jealous.  My sister can learn anything from a diagram, too.  It’s just not the way my brain works.  I need to see someone physically do the thing in front of me.  If I actually see it, I can then do it myself.  YouTube tutorials have been a wonderful thing for me in this regard.

that’s awesome! I can never teach myself practical stuff out of books. Things like assembling instructions are the most difficult thing ever. It’s amazing that you taught yourself how to crochet from a book!! (and crocheting is hard too!)

OHMYGOD I know, right?  The instructions are always confusingly worded and the diagrams are impossible to understand and the whole thing just ends up being frustrating and terrible.  UGH.  Especially crocheting diagrams.  How are those helpful?  [*whispers* They’re not.]

Petrificus Totalus: What’s your biggest fear?

Failure, followed closely by birds and heights.

Protego: Who is your protector or who do you protect?

I protect my friends.  And by ‘protect’ I mean verbally annihilate anyone who hurts them.  That’s always been my role.

Incendio: What would you take with you if your house were on fire?

For sentimental reasons: the pink gingham rag doll my grandma gave me and the ballerina bear my other grandma made for me.

For practical reasons: my portable hard drive because everything from my computer is backed up on it.

Wingardium Leviosa: What was hard for you to learn, but you are able to do at this point?

How to crochet.  It took me forever because I had to teach myself from a book.  I may be a visual learner, but I have a hard time teaching myself certain types of things from books.  Hands-on skills would be an example.  I usually need someone to demonstrate so I can ask questions, but my mom didn’t know how to crochet and my grandma lived 1500 miles away so she couldn’t show me either.

ANYWAY, when I was 14 I taught myself to crochet because I was bored [and stubborn - I didn’t want to give up until I got the hang of it].  It took me weeks to get the hang of it.

Well we are the same kind of weird, then. Because that’s how I said it…

That makes it infinitely better.

yep. Totally appropriate. But you know, I only speak the truth :D

Hahaha.  Side note: is it weird that I read ‘I only speak the truth’ in John Leguizamo’s Toulouse-Lautrec voice?
